IN MEMORY
OF
The Rev. Dr. Cyril Yearwood and Former Scarborough Soccer Referee

The Rev. Dr. Cyril Yearwood started his Soccer career in 1979, he took the referees entry level clinic at George Brown College and passed with flying colours, he was first in his class with a pass mark of 96. He joined the Referees Association and with that big smile of his soon became a member in good standing. As he started applying his refereeing skills his knowledge of the laws of the game became very noticeable. He embarked into the upgrading program and soon became a level 2 referee. After refereeing at this level for 2 to 3 years, he passed the level 1 referee’s written test and needed to pass 3 on field assessments. He was unable to acquire favourable results on the field assessments and became disillusioned with the system and gradually withdrew from refereeing.
Cyril was a member of the Scarborough Soccer Referees Association for approximately 12 years. He served as a Director for two years in 1988 and 1989. During his 12 years with the referees association, he refereed in many different leagues, including the T and D and the Robbie International Soccer Tournament, the last game he refereed was in the Robbie Tournament finals.
Cyril was a very likeable person, he was always willing to help anyone who was in need of his help and with that big smile of his was able to get people to look at both sides before passing judgment on to others. For those of us who knew Cyril, we will remember him in this manner. A small man with a big friendly smile who walked tall, conducted himself with integrity and dignity on and off the field
