2009 Regional Referee (old
Class 2) Upgrading Program
Dates: Saturday May 30 &
Sunday May 31, 2009
Time: Sat - 9:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. Sun - 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (est)
Location: Multiple locations
across the province - determined by participants locations

Prerequisites to attend course
- Must be 18 years of age as of April 1st, 2009.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years experience as a
District Referee (C4 and/or C3).
- Must receive recommendation to enter program from
DRC
- Must complete and send in application form &
clinic fee by March 1, 2009
- Must have run and passed the Regional Referee
Fitness Standard by May 15th 2009 prior to attending course

Course Fee
- Course Fee: $160.00 (payable to The Ontario
Soccer Association by cheque or money order)***
***Course fee will be refunded if referee fails
to pass Regional Fitness Test prior to May 15th, 2009.
- Course fee includes two days of
training
- Lunch on both days
- A travel subsidy for those
travelling over 200kms one way (with the prior approval of the
Manager of Referee Development)
Day of course
- On the morning of Saturday, May 30th, all
participants are required to write an exam on the Laws of the Game.
- After exam participants will have two days of
instruction and practical learning
Requirements for successful upgrade to a Regional Referee
- Pass Fitness Test at the Regional Referee
standard (to see standards, please go
here) prior to
May 15th, 2009.
- Pass multiple choice exam with a mark of 80% or
better. The exam will be written at the beginning of the course, and is
based solely on the Laws of the Game. Referees attending the course are
urged to register for the season early, in order to receive their copy
of the 2008/2009 Laws of the Game in order to study. The Laws of the
Game are also available online at
www.fifa.com.
- Referee in a minimum of 20 qualifying games
(competitive U16 games and above).
- Work as an assistant referee in a minimum of 5
qualifying games (competitive U16 games and above).
- Receive a minimum of 3 assessments as a Referee
over the period of 20 qualifying games. Assessments are reviewed by a
review committee at the conclusion of the year and a decision will be
made regarding the referee's status. Note that simply meeting the
minimum requirements does not guarantee upgrade to Regional Referee.
- REFEREES HAVE 1 SEASON TO COMPLETE
REQUIREMENTS. Referees who fail to
complete the requirements will be required to re-start the program if
they wish to continue with their upgrade.
