President’s Corner!
by Lesile Wong
In my opinion, this year 2005 was a very successful year for our branch and branch members. They were many milestones reached this year by various referees in our branch.
We all know by now that Isaac Raymond was appointed to the status of Nominated National Referee. What is not known is that Michael Roecken was recommended to the Canadian Soccer Association as a candidate for this status this year. Michael did not make it this year, due to criteria changes which can only be completed in a two year span. We also have Jocques Tjonason who should be following in this direction some time soon.
Prestige Game Appointments:
Jacques Tjonasan:
Jacques was appointed by Ontario Soccer Association to officiate in the season opener of the Toronto Lady Lynx Vs Vermont (USA) Soccer Game on Sunday May 15th, at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium. Jacques also refereed many CPSL games.
David Barrie:
David was appointed by Ontario Soccer Association to officiate as an AR, in the same season opener of the Toronto Lady Lynx Vs Vermont (USA) as Jacques, on Sunday May 15th. David also officiated as the AR in many CPSL games.
Milorad Donev:
Milorad was appointed
by OSA and the CPSL to thefollowings:-
May 28th - W-League opener -Toronto Lady Lynx Vs Sudbury Canadians in Sudbury (AR
1)
May 29th - W-League- Ottawa Fury Woman Vs Sudbury Canadians in Sudbury (AR 1)
June 12th-CPSL-Oakvill Blue Devils Vs Laval Dynamites at Bronte Stadium (AR 2)
Michael Roecken:
Michael was appointed by Ontario Soccer Association and C.P.S.L to the following
games:-
May 21st - CPSL- Border Stars Vs London City in Windsor(middle)
May 23rd - CPSL - Canada Cup Prelim. Round. - London AEK Vs Inter Oshawa in
London (line)
May 26th - Friendly-Thunder Bay Chill (PDL) Vs Toronto Lynx (USL) in Thunder
Bay.
July 20-24:Boys Under 14 and 16 National All-Star Championships in Trois - Rivieres. Quebec.
Sophia Levy Tjonasan:
Sophia Levy, Soula Fradelos and Odia Jahurally made Robbie history by being the first female referees’ team to officiate in the women’s U18 Finals. What a job they did! The performance of Sophia, Soula and Odia in this final resulted in Sophia being selected to officiate in Girls 14 and 16 National All Star Tournament in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Many of our referees (too many to mention) received Ontario Cup Semi Finals and Finals in this year's Ontario Cup.
John McAllister & Bob McAllister
John McAllister and his son Bob McAllister have made branch history by being the first father and son combination to have achieved 64 years of continuous refereeing service in the District of Scarborough and possibly Ontario. As far as I know, this is the first father and son "team" to achieve this distinct honor. Bob joined our branch at the tender age of 13.
Harry DiCiacca was appointed chief scheduler for the Scarborough Indoor League. John McInall was also appointed as a scheduler for the Scarborough Indoor League reporting to Harry.
A few of our referees are associated with the G.S. United Soccer Club, who have won the Canadian National Championship this year. How sweet it is! Congratulations!
Not only those referees mentioned should be congratulated, but also all branch members for doing an excellent job during the year. Congratulations to all.
