The passing of a friend and colleague by Les Wong
The passing of a friend and colleague by Les Wong

It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of Tony De Rosario on March 11th 2020.

Tony D as he was known to all, was a referee in our branch for many years and a friend to many of the referees past and present. He had a promising career and was very successful as a referee, he refereed many games and tournaments in Scarborough and other parts of Ontario.

Surprisingly, Tony’s first love in this wonderful sport of soccer was not refereeing, it was coaching, it was no surprise to the many of us who knew Tony, when he made the decision to put his emphasis on coaching. He coached teams in the following clubs; Scarborough National Malvern, Scarborough United Women's Soccer Club and Wexford Soccer Club. Tony also coached the Guyana Men’s and Women’s Olympic soccer teams, CTSA men's soccer team and was the Director of the DeRo United Futbol Academy. Tony was very successful in his coaching endeavours.

Tony is survived by Rose Cuoppolo, his longtime partner, her son Frank, and his sons, Paul, Mark and Dwayne. Rose was also a longtime referee and a member of the Scarborough Soccer Referees Association branch as well. Tony and Rose have helped many a young referee progress upon their joining our branch. He will be sadly missed by the soccer community in Scarborough, and in many other areas in and around the GTA.

The Scarborough Soccer Referees Association and The Scarborough Soccer Association would like to express their sincere condolences to Rose, Frank, Paul, Mark and Dwayne,  and the rest of Tony D's family upon the loss of a loyal and hardworking individual.

A celebration of life is planned as soon as the Covid19 situation is over. An announcement will be made.

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave  and impossible to forget.  Rest In Peace
